Data Engineer
The Role
We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our team and make a meaningful impact on education outcomes. The successful candidate will use a wide range of tools and techniques to provide critical insights that will inform decision-making and strategic planning for the organisations and institutions we work with. With over 80% of Bulgarian schools using Shkolo, and 14,000 schools in the UK primed to take the product in the coming years, the successful candidate will be empowered by large and interesting data sets full of stories that are waiting to be told.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Extract, clean, organise and process educational data from a variety of sources to ensure quality and integrity.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and insights.
- Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms to analyse outcomes and predict future trends.
- Develop reports, dashboards, and visualisations to communicate findings to key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure the quality and integrity of the data we acquire.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning and educational research to continuously improve analytical methods.
- Document process, methods, and findings to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Provide support to team members and key stakeholders to improve data literacy.
Key Attributes:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency working with relational and document databases (eg. MySQL, DynamoDB)
- Proficiency working with analysis and visualisation tools (eg. Python, R, Power BI, QuickSight)
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modelling.
- Experience with data pre-processing techniques and tooling for large datasets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically about data and implications.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Familiarity with the education sector would be a bonus.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) would be a bonus.
- Experience with API’s would be a bonus.
- Attention to detail, with an excellent command of written and spoken English
