Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Chief Accountant to independently manage all accounting operations for our Bulgarian entity.
As the primary accountant in Bulgaria, you will be responsible for both leading and executing all financial activities, including payroll management.
The role also involves supporting our UK parent company over time, making this a critical position within our international Group Finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Spectrum Accounting: Independently handle all accounting functions for the Bulgarian entity, including daily transactions, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Payroll Management: Oversee and execute the full payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely salary calculations, tax and social security contributions, and compliance with local labor laws.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit monthly accounts, including journal entries, ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings.
- Balance Sheet Management: Conduct comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong oversight of all financial statements.
- System & Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to enhance financial systems and controls, implementing improvements as needed.
- Audit Preparation & Support: Take the lead in preparing for company audits, ensuring full compliance with both local and international standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Prepare and submit all required government reports (e.g., VAT, VIES) accurately and on time.
- Routine Accounting Tasks: Perform daily accounting tasks, such as posting invoices, managing accounts payable/receivable, and conducting bank reconciliations.
- UK Parent Company Support: Gradually take on responsibilities to support the UK parent company, ensuring alignment with group financial practices and compliance.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Lead and participate in various ad hoc projects and other duties as required by the organization.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a senior accounting role with experience managing all aspects of a company's accounting, including payroll, ideally as a Chief Accountant or in a similar position.
- Qualifications: ACCA qualification is preferred; extensive experience in a finance department is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (NetSuite experience is a plus); advanced Excel skills.
- Payroll Expertise: Strong understanding and experience in managing payroll processes, including local tax and social security regulations would be considered as strong advantage.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a senior accounting role.
- Educational Background: ACCA qualification is preferred; extensive experience in a finance department is essential.
- Proficiency in English: Minimum level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
